Underwater photography is a specialized art and a tricky endeavor, few photographers totally focus on it. Different from the colorful underwater photography, Anuar Patjane, a Mexican photographer and anthropologist, captures these sea creatures and their environment in black and white. Concerning the series Underwater Realm, “I try to drive our attention towards the beauty of our oceans a a truth usually unnoticed: We are brutally overfishing in our oceans, and our attention should be concentrated on the way we fish, as well as what we eat from the ocean,” Anuar Patjane explains in an artist statement. “We see and care when a forest is gone because it is visible to everybody, but we don’t see when we destroy life underwater.”
