This photograph of the volcanic plume was captured by an astronaut on the International Space Station’s (ISS) 250 miles (402km) overhead. On the morning of June 22, 2019, the Raikoke Volcano on Russia’s Kuril Islands erupted and the massive plume of ash and gas of 13km rising in a narrow column into the sky that it’s visible from space, this spectacular scene was shot by an unnamed member of the Expedition 59 crew with a Nikon D5 at a focal length of 340mm.
