Dark 3D life-sized drawings of animals by Vancouver-based Fiona Tang, a student at the Emily Carr University of Art and Design, represent a dark and fearful world in which these realistically life-sized wild predators look like they had a life of their own and might pop out of the paper, say, a tough-looking whale and a menacing shark emerging from the wall, a regal deer looking straight at the viewer, etc. The artist used trompe l’oeil technique to achieve these awesome dark 3D drawings with charcoal, acrylic paint, conte, ink, and chalk pastel, “I love sketching, to the point where I will catch myself looking at my surrounding as sketches,” said Fiona Tang, “Art isn’t only my passion, but also my outlet and therapy; it always manages to cheer me up.”
