Ise-katagami is a Japanese craft of making paper stencils for dyeing textiles that is designated as one of the Important Intangible Cultural Properties of Japan. San Francisco-based paper artist Kanako Abe creates stylized paper cut artworks like elaborate portraits of animals and children with this this traditional paper stencil technique.
