“Diamond Nights” project by Beth Moon, a San Francisco-based female photographer, features world’s oldest trees under the starlight. Moon has spent 15 years around the world taking pictures of these ancient trees primarily in South Africa, Botswana and Namibia, in this night-themed series, she is inspired by studies that ancient trees are affected by the variations in the motion of celestial bodies. “Our relationship to the wild has always played an important role in my work. This series was inspired by two fascinating, scientific studies that connect tree growth with celestial movement and astral cycles,” said Beth Moon. The photographer uses 30 second exposure times to avoid capturing movement of the stars.
