Surreal and figurative ceramic works by sculptor Ronit Baranga
The Israel-based artist and ceramicist Ronit Baranga created a series of unsettling ceramic tableware that implantes realistic human’s anatomical parts with tea-things like teacups, pots, plates, saucers, even desserts etc,. Sculpted from clay, Open mouths and lips are placed at the center of cups, saucers and plates, realistic fingers emerge from pots and plates, “I chose to deal with ‘mouth’ as a metaphoric connotation to a border gate, a border between the inner body and the external environment surrounding it.” Ronit Baranga said, “The mixed emotions of need and the insatiable hunger for more – more sugar, more attention, more love. There is a constant push against the boundaries of rational consumption, craving the sugar rush, forever tempted to go overboard.”
