Cancer survivor illustrator designs meaningful and heartwarming Empathy Cards for seriously ill people
Emily McDowell is an artist who was diagnosed with Stage 3 Hodgkin’s lymphoma at 24, fortunately, she conquered cancer after 9 months fighting, as a cancer survivor and art experienced illustrator, Emily McDowell based on her own experiences and feelings to create meaningful, heartwarming and funny Empathy Cards for those people who are suffering from serious illnesses. Emily McDowell knows the most difficult part of seriously ill people isn’t hair losing or sickness from chemo, but the loneliness and isolation, “I felt when many of my close friends and family members disappeared because they didn’t know what to say, or said the absolute wrong thing without realizing it.” Emily McDowell said, “I created these empathy cards for serious illness because we need some better, more authentic ways to communicate about sickness and suffering.”
