The floating “zebra stripes”, visually, is put into practice in Ísafjörður, a small fishing town in Iceland. Ralf Trylla, the Icelandic environmental commissioner, brought forward this idea and put into effect after seeing a 3D zebra crosswalk being carried out in New Delhi, India. The optical illusion lets pedestrians feel like they are walking on air and hopes to get the attention of drivers. Source 1, 2
